What are You Waiting For?

Someone once joked that many people treat Jesus like a vacation getaway. That is, Jesus is their "Last Resort."

As bad as that joke is, it makes a good point. We often try to find healing, hope, answers, wisdom, love, etc. in just about everything except Jesus. We may try money, possessions, friends, work, drugs, sex, or many other things to find what we're looking for.

In the end, we never really do.

In the end, everything we truly need for lasting peace, hope, healing, and happiness is found in Christ alone.

In Mark 5, we encounter a woman who's had a bleeding sore for twelve long years. Such a condition would have made her "unclean" in Jewish culture, meaning she could have no contact with anyone.

In a desperate attempt to get well, we are told that this woman has spent all her money on doctors trying to find a cure. All she had to show for all that money and effort was a worsened condition and an empty bank account.

Finally, after a dozen years of trying her own solutions, as well as investing in the best her culture had to offer, she turns to Jesus.

We read, "She came up behind [Jesus] through the crowd and touched his robe. For she thought to herself, 'If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.' Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition." ~ Mark 5:27-29 (NLT)

Twelve years trying to deal with things her way are erased the moment she trusts in Jesus. Afterwards, I wonder how many times she lamented waiting so long to come to Jesus. Too many to count, I am sure.

In fact, if she were here today, I am convinced her counsel to all of us would be, "What are you waiting for? Give your struggles, hurts, issues, etc. over to Jesus right now!"

Sounds like good advice.
