The Dangers of Secular Humanism -- Part 5

In the 1930s, secular humanist Charles F. Potter wrote, "Education is thus a most powerful ally of humanism, and every American school is a school of humanism. What can a theistic Sunday school's meeting for an hour once a week and teaching only a fraction of the children do to stem the tide of the five-day program of humanistic teaching?”

In 1983, John J. Dunphy, in his award winning essay, The Humanist, penned these words. "The battle for humankind's future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith: A religion of humanity -- utilizing a classroom instead of a pulpit to carry humanist values into wherever they teach. The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new -- the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism."

Adolph Hitler proclaimed, “When an opponent declares, ‘I will not come over to your side,’ I say calmly, ‘Your child belongs to us already…What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in a new camp. In a short time, they will know nothing but this new community.”

Joseph Goebbels also would hauntingly state, “The essence of propaganda consists in winning people over to an idea so sincerely, so vitally, that in the end they succumb to it utterly and can never escape from it."

What do the above quotes tell us? Those who seek to change belief systems always aim straight for the heart of a child. They know that if they can win the coming generation, then they can win indeed. This is why parents need to be diligent in filling their children’s hearts and minds with the things of God.

The Bible clearly understands that the battle for the soul is waged in the heart and mind. This is why God’s Word is filled with verses like the one found in Romans 12:2: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

How about Ephesians 4:23? Be made new in the attitude of your mind.

Romans 8:6 tells us, The mind controlled by the sinful nature is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

Solomon in Proverbs 27:19 would tell his son, As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the person.

And in Proverbs 4:23, the wise king would say, Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

It is vital for parents to fill their children’s days with biblical messages that will bless their hearts and minds and lead to decisions that honor God and ultimately bless them and others. Seek to center on Christ through daily biblical discussions, family devotions, and prayer times. A great set of family devotions can be found HERE.

Don’t let your children succumb to the invasion. Don’t let them get snatched. Keep them safe in the hands of God.
