Great is His Faithfulness

Excerpt from Light in the Storm

The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words. I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. ~ Lamentations 3:19-23

One day, Bruce Miller walked outside his front door only to find his cat on the porch with a wren in its mouth. Bruce quickly worked to free the little bird from his cat’s clutches. Discovering that the wren’s wing was broken, Bruce planned to take the bird to the local vet. However, the wounded and frightened bird fought Bruce with every ounce of strength, trying desperately to flee his caring hands.

A week later, Bruce could not help but think of that incident as his young daughter clung tightly to him at the doctor’s office. She needed to get a vaccination and cringed at the sight of the needle. Scared and weeping, she cried, “No, Daddy! No, Daddy! No, Daddy!” But all the while she gripped him tightly. In her pain, she wanted the caring hands of her father wrapped around her.

Each of us, whether we realize it or not, react to pain and hurt like the wren or the daughter. We either focus on the pain, and flee from God’s caring presence, or we focus on God and experience His arms wrapped around us as we go through the pain.

Let your pain drive you into the lap of your Heavenly Father. There you will experience faithfulness like no other.
