Control is an Illusion

Control is an illusion.

You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. ~ Proverbs 19:21 (NLT)

We are not in control. God is in control.

The sooner we realize that God is control, that He is the Creator, that He knows best, and that His plan is the one we should follow, the sooner our lives will get infinitely better.

But oh, how pride keeps getting in the way.

Now, occasionally, just occasionally of course, I have been accused of being a bit, just a tad bit, of a control freak. (For an alternate view of how much of a control freak I am, see my wife.)

My wife laughs every time I pull out the tape measure to make sure furniture and pictures are exactly centered. (And once something is exactly centered that is where it will stay until Jesus comes back or I die.)

Moreover, the first thing I do at the start of each week is make my TO-DO list. And yes, it is etched in stone tablets. My life's goal each week is to complete that list before Saturday.

But here’s the thing—as much as I would like to think I am, I am not in control.

Through much trial and error, and tough lessons taught by the Lord Himself, I have come to realize this fact--God is in control not me.

My plan is not what is best, God's plan is best. The to-do list I need to follow each week is not my own TO-DO list; it's God’s.

Have you learned that same lesson?
