God Isn't Looking for Your Quarter
"Prayer is surrender--surrender to the will of God and cooperation with that will. If I throw out a boathook from the boat and catch hold of the shore and pull, do I pull the shore to me, or do I pull myself to the shore? Prayer is not pulling God to my will, but the aligning of my will to the will of God.” ~ E. Stanley Jones
There are so many things that can go wrong with vending machines!
Have you ever put your money in a vending machine to get a bag of chips or pretzels only to see that bag get stuck in its slot and seemingly taunt you by not falling down into the retrieval area?
Have you ever put money into a soda machine, pressed the button, and a soda other than the kind you wanted popped out? Or how about pressing the wrong button by accident on a vending machine? Have you done that one?
Boy, each time stuff like this happens, I get really annoyed. I end up spending the quarters I dug out of my seat cushions and have nothing to show for it!
I bring up vending machines today because sometimes we treat God like a vending machine.
We spend our time in prayer and expect to get what we want from Him. Only He seems to dangle something just out of reach from us and/or doesn’t give us what we want.
If this has been the case for you, perhaps you, like me, have been guilty of thinking God exists for your benefit instead of vice-versa.
God doesn't want your quarter and your request. He wants you.
Come to Him and allow Him to give you what you need most, not what you want most.
